Big money, and big-name firms, tie themselves to Hochul’s election effort

A deep fundraising network and connections to influential corporations and lobbyists are set to power Gov. Kathy Hochul through the Democratic Party primary and may have persuaded a chief opponent to drop out.

Hochul’s path to victory was bolstered this week when Attorney General Letitia James ended her campaign for governor and announced her intention to seek re-election. James cited a desire to focus on a number of outstanding prosecutions as her reason to bow out of the primary, but some political strategists believe money may have been behind her decision.
