The Blacklites Return For 21st Jazz in the City concert in Syracuse

CNY Jazz Band The Blacklites will perform at the free CNY Jazz in the City concert for the 21st time on July 24. The concert is from 6 to 9 p.m. on the lawn behind Dunk & Bright Furniture.

The Blacklites are a jazz group from Syracuse’s southside making music for over 50 years. The band will play at one of six concerts in the Jazz in the City series across different neighborhoods in the city. The show on South Salina Street will offer free water purification kits and health screenings.

“We’ve seen a lot of change along the entire South Salina corridor, all of it positive, in the two decades since we’ve been programming here,” Larry Luttinger, series organizer, said. “This neighborhood is more vibrant every year and developing a strong new sense of identity. The local audience wouldn’t miss this event at this point; it’s become a pilgrimage.”

Before the Blacklites appear at 7 p.m., 1 Accord Line Dance invite attendees to “dance for health.” The concert will also host healthcare and family service providers as well as food and craft vendors. Healthcare professionals from Syracuse Community Health will table at the concert incentivizing those who wished to be screened, tested and interviewed for their health needs. The Leadsafe CNY Coalition will raffle 10 free water purification kits and teach about in-home prevention.
