Kyle Waves Channels Late-Night Club Tension Into Release on “Picture In My Phone”

Singapore-born, New York-based electronic-pop artist Kyle Waves released his new single, “Picture In My Phone,” on February 6, marking a bold tonal shift for the rising artist.

Built on strobe-lit house beats and understated piano lines, “Picture In My Phone” captures a familiar late-night emotional crossroads: the moment when self-preservation finally outweighs comfort. The track places listeners on a crowded dance floor, phone lighting up with messages from a past lover while the pull of the music grows stronger.

Lyrically, Waves confronts a relationship that no longer serves him, addressing the lingering presence of an ex whose image still lives on his screen. Rather than returning to what’s familiar, the song leans into the intoxicating freedom of choosing forward motion. The result is a track that balances vulnerability with confidence, intimacy with release.

According to Waves, the single represents a new chapter both creatively and personally. After defining his sound with last year’s Signals, he is now pushing toward something darker, sexier, and more mature. “Picture In My Phone” serves as the first glimpse of that evolution, pairing club-ready production with emotional clarity.

Kyle Waves has steadily emerged as a notable voice within Asian and queer music communities. Influenced by a blend of Eastern and Western pop, R&B, and electronic music, his work is synth-heavy and vocal-forward, often exploring themes of love, loss, and friendship. With more than a decade of formal training in singing and dance, Waves complements his music with strong choreography and visually driven concepts.

His previous releases have received airplay on Singapore’s 987FM, along with features on OutLoud Radio and New Queer Friday, and press support from outlets including Out Magazine, Queerty, Earmilk,  EQ Music, and Ones To Watch.

“Picture In My Phone” arrives February 6 and signals a confident step forward for an artist continuing to refine both his sound and his story.
