Next Thursday, September 25, Syracuse will be treated to a show from experimental indie outfit Crooked Coast at Funk ‘n Waffles.
Crooked Coast emerged out of Cape Cod as a self-proclaimed “DIY” project, playing gigs at seaside dive bars before evolving into the innovative indie rock band they’re known as today. The four-piece outfit blends inspirations from all styles – whether you’re a fan of punk, reggae, hip-hop, pop, or something in between, Crooked Coast is sure to have something up your alley.
The band may be most known for Coast-Fest, their very own successful festival that draws thousands to Cape Cod each year. This past summer, the festival featured performances from 8 different acts (including Crooked Coast) across 2 stages in Falmouth, MA. Crooked Coast can also be found on festival bills from Boston Calling to Reggae Rise Up, but that doesn’t stop them from giving their all at an intimate venue, just like Syracuse’s Funk ‘n Waffles next week.

This year, Crooked Coast’s music has continued to evolve with them being invited to record a Sugar Shack Sessions EP in May. They joined the likes of Slightly Stoopid, Pepper, and Fortunate Youth for this series, which invites bands to reimagine their tracks in an acoustic setting. The EP and its accompanying videos have given fans a new look into Crooked Coast’s innovation and willingness to take risks.
Crooked Coast has found success from the start of their career to today. 2022’s Picture This saw them collaborate with 5 Seconds of Summer and Good Charlotte producer Courtney Ballard, and their most recent LP, Nothing Before & Nothing After, had them working with the same producers as Portugal. the Man, Grayscale, and Hollywood Undead. Their music has been praised for its ability to balance light and dark, combining the ease of a New England summer with the grit of a Northeastern winter.
“We love Syracuse… We’ve been a couple times and are pumped to come back. It’s a fun city and the music scene is great. We always stop by The Sound Garden record shop when we’re in town.”
-Luke Vose, Crooked Coast
