Who will design Donald Trump’s presidential library? And where it will be built? It’s still too soon to say, but Florida, the “home state of President Trump,” is doing its most to win the future institution.
Florida state officials passed an agenda item today to set aside a tract of land in Miami Dade County for the future Donald J. Trump Presidential Library. The 2.63-acre parcel at Miami Dade College is adjacent to the Freedom Tower, an art deco landmark completed in 1925 that was recently restored.
The parcel’s estimated value is $67 million. According to state officials, it’s underutilized as an employee parking lot for Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus.
Blaise Ingoglia, Florida’s CFO, said Miami is a natural choice: “we look forward to welcoming visitors from around the world to learn about his legacy of patriotism. This enshrines Florida as Trump Country,” Ingoglia said.
The effort to build Trump Library in Miami is backed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. “Having the Trump Presidential Library in Miami will be good for Florida, for the city, and for Miami Dade College,” DeSantis said in a statement.
DeSantis continued: “No state has supported the President’s agenda more than the Free State of Florida, and I was proud to spearhead the successful effort to house this historic presidential library right here in his home state.”
The Donald J. Trump Presidential Library will be funded in part by settlement money Trump won in December 2024 from ABC News over a defamation suit. The 2024 settlement agreement dictated that ABC News pay $15 million toward the presidential library.
Eric Trump is in charge of vetting sites for the future presidential library. Members of the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Foundation toured the site in Miami several months ago for consideration, however it hasn’t committed to anywhere just yet.
