Los Angeles–based wallcovering manufacturer Astek has released Eterna Nouveau, a collection of digitally printed murals that reinterprets art nouveau’s organic forms and botanical motifs for contemporary hospitality and commercial interiors. The collection marks the latest addition to the company’s growing catalog of original and collaborative wallcovering designs produced at its Van Nuys, California, headquarters.
A Modern Take on a Century-Old Movement
Eterna Nouveau draws from art nouveau’s early 1900s origins and its 1960s revival, translating the movement’s signature sweeping linework and layered florals into large-scale mural formats suited for commercial and hospitality applications. The collection takes an unexpected approach to its botanical subject matter. Rather than relying solely on traditional roses and lilies, Eterna Nouveau incorporates carnivorous plants, kelp, and other unconventional flora alongside timeless orchids and poppies. The result is a set of designs that feel familiar in their art nouveau DNA but distinct enough to avoid reading as period reproduction.
Each design in the collection is printed to order using Astek’s spot gloss technique, which applies selective sheen to specific areas of the print to create depth and visual contrast within a single surface. Colorways range from soft creams and seafoams to deep midnight and burgundy tones, with individual designs available in multiple palettes. Because the collection is digitally printed, designers can request modifications to scale and colorway to suit specific project requirements.
The Technology Behind the Surface
Astek operates a fleet of large-format UV digital printers capable of producing wallcoverings on a wide range of substrates. The company’s printing capabilities include flatbed printing on rigid materials like acrylic, wood, and aluminum, as well as roll-to-roll production for textile and vinyl substrates. Their haptic printing process builds up multiple layers of ink to create dimensional, textured surfaces that can evoke the feel of brushstrokes, embossed patterns, or natural materials.
All printing is done with VOC-free inks that contain no heavy metals or corrosive substances. The inks carry UL Solutions’s GREENGUARD Gold certification, and many of the company’s standard substrates are PVC-free Type II wallcoverings made with post-consumer recycled content. These material choices can support LEED credits for material sourcing and indoor air quality when properly documented as part of a project’s sustainability package.
Astek has expanded its fleet of Durst printers at its Los Angeles headquarters, increasing production capacity and resolution for large-format work.
Custom Work and Designer Collaborations
While Eterna Nouveau is part of Astek’s in-house studio catalog, the company’s core business extends well beyond stock collections. Astek’s in-house design team works directly with architects and interior designers to develop fully custom wallcoverings from scratch. The collaborative process typically begins with a concept, whether that’s a watercolor sketch, a photograph, a material sample, or a verbal description of the intended mood. Astek’s designers translate that input into a print-ready file, produce digital and physical proofs for approval, and manage production through a quality control process before shipping.

This collaborative model has produced work across hospitality, healthcare, retail, film, and residential projects. Notable examples include wallcoverings for The Ben, Autograph Collection Hotel (in collaboration with EOA Group), restaurant installations for Hai Di Lao, and a NICU family lounge at Tucson Medical Center developed with Interiors In Design.
The company has also built a track record of designer collaborations that have earned industry recognition. The Resonance collection, an original series of painted murals, was recognized as an HD Awards finalist and won a Best of Year People’s Choice award from Interior Design magazine. Ascend, a collaboration with designer Jill Malek featuring mountain-inspired forms printed with spot gloss, earned a Silver Award at Best of NeoCon and was named a HiP Awards finalist. Iconographic, a collaboration with actor and designer Terry Crews, won Best Contract Wallcovering at NYCxDESIGN.
