New Musical ‘The Waiting’ to premiere at Cohoes Music Hall

The Waiting, a new musical composed by Capital Region native Maria Isabella Andreoli, will debut with a full production for the first time. The shows plan to run from June 12 through 15 at the historic Cohoes Music Hall.

Presented by the Playhouse Stage Company, The Waiting will hold 7:30 p.m. evening performances Thursday through Saturday. Matinee performances will play at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The Waiting takes place in the woods of Vermont with a folk-inspired score. The story follows a mother, Chlo Evans, desperately searching for her daughter and inevitably entering an otherworldly realm. Caught between worlds of life and death, the haunting folk soundtrack and earthy poetry explores questions of what lives beyond death.

The musical was co-created by composer Maria Isabella Andreoli who grew up in Clifton Park. She wrote music from a young age and participated in the Playhouse Stage Academy youth programs. Andreoli studied Theatre Arts at Pace University where she met The Waiting co-creator, book writer and lyricist EmmaLee Kidwell.

“To have the opportunity to premiere a musical that was co-created by one of our alums is an absolute thrill,” Playhouse Stage Company Producing Artistic Director, Owen Smith said in a statement.

The Waiting is set to premiere at Cohoes Music Hall, just 15 minutes outside the city of Albany. Built in 1874, the venue is the fourth-oldest operating music hall in the United States. The historic hall is also the second-oldest in New York State, right behind Hudson Hall, built in 1855.
