Apprenticeship programs that allow for on-the-job training are growing across all sectors in New York—just not as fast in New York City.
The city has just four more state-registered apprenticeship programs today than it did in 2018, according to a new report from the Center for an Urban Future. Statewide, the number of registered apprenticeship programs has grown 30% over the same period, to 950. With employers increasingly reporting a mismatch between job openings and skills in the market, the lack of local growth for apprenticeships is a missed opportunity, according to the Manhattan-based think tank’s report.
