City Council steps toward establishing a mayoral office for nonprofits

Pass the stuffing and prepare to add another portion of city government to your plate.

The City Council’s government operations committee voted Monday to establish the Mayor’s Office of Not-for-Profit Organization Services. Sponsored by Brooklyn Councilmember Farah Louis, the measure would take effect just months after Mayor-elect Eric Adams takes over. It would add another layer to the bureaucracy Adams inherits from Mayor Bill de Blasio on Jan. 1.

The committee passed the measure by a 7-0 vote; the bill is expected to get a full chamber vote Dec. 5.
