Kristian Montgomery dropped his latest EP and is heading to New York to share it. This mix is more than just a collection of songs, it tells a story of survival. The artist released Prophets of the Apocalypse on March 15 while living out of a hotel room after a devastating house fire. With the sounds of the Winterkill Band, this EP captures the raw grit and emotional depth of an artist rising from the ashes.
A month before the planned release, Montgomery lost his home, pets, barn, farm, and all his music gear in a fire that changed his life in minutes. Despite this tragedy, the EP, produced by Vincent Freeman at The Underground Studio, was released on streaming platforms as Montgomery was still recovering. Shortly after, on March 23, he won Favorite Americana Artist at the Listen Up Music Awards in Cohoes, New York.
Prophets of the Apocalypse showcases strong guitar skills anchored in a blend of country, Americana, and rock influences. The instrumentation carries both energy and subtlety, creating a sound that feels familiar yet fresh. The guitar often leads with skillful playing, while the drummer adds a steady, driving rhythm that lifts the songs and keeps the momentum going. Together with the rest of the band, they create a full, polished sound that remains heartfelt and genuine. The songs explore themes of endurance, loss, and the challenge of moving forward.
Montgomery’s vocals are smooth and controlled, delivering lyrics with clarity and emotional depth. His harmonies add warmth and texture. The production is clean and organic, letting each instrument shine without overpowering the overall mood. This combination of tight musicianship and thoughtful arrangements gives the EP a confident, mature tone.

Kristian Montgomery is a reminder that even when everything is lost, the music and the story can still be shared. He will perform on June 28 at The Parting Glass in Saratoga Springs. You can also find him at Make Music Day, in Albany on June 21.
