Woodstock welcomed Grace Bowers and The Hodge Podge this past Wednesday, August 13, to Levon Helm Studios, marking the band’s first performance at the venue.
At just 19, Grace has already built an impressive following within the music community, with many hailing her as one of the most exciting new guitarists. Before releasing any original music, she began gaining attention on social media by posting videos of her playing. Her talent quickly caught the eye of some of music’s biggest names, leading to appearances alongside legends like Dolly Parton, Peter Frampton, and Trey Anastasio.

Wednesday’s show in Woodstock was the perfect way to showcase why word is spreading about the guitarist. With no opening act, Grace and The Hodge Podge took the stage shortly after 8 PM. From the very first note, it was evident that Grace’s playing is a type of talent not often seen. From her phrasing to her vibrato, there is much to be learned as a musician watching her play.
While her playing is frequently praised, her voice has only recently begun to receive attention. Having only started singing live within the past year, her voice is just as distinctive as her playing, both exuding tons of soul. Each member of The Hodge Podge also brought along their own standout musicianship, making the show a true showcase of collective talent.

The band’s set offered a well balanced mix of originals and covers, including their takes on Hendrix’s “Red House” and Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice.” They also played a new original song titled “Girl Like That,” which was debuted the night before at their Brooklyn show.

Grace Bowers and The Hodge Podge have many upcoming shows through the end of the year, including a set at the Sea.Hear.Now Festival in Asbury Park, NJ. For a full list of dates, visit her website.
