Glom Announces New Album “Below,” Grunge-Gaze Single “Mirror”

On October 1, Brooklyn-based alternative rock artist Glom (a.k.a. Sean Dunnevant) released his newest single, “Mirror,” in anticipation of his newly announced album Below, set to be released on January 9, 2026.

Below is said to be a snapshot of Dunnevant’s life from 2022-2024, documenting his journey of perseverance as he battled the uncertainty of his career path as a musician. Following 2020’s Merit, Below promises to raise the stakes for Glom as an artist, seeing Dunnevant realize the full extent of his creative vision as he embarks on Glom’s first venture as a solo act.

On discussing the upcoming album, Dunnevant claims that “With the previous Glom records, I took a lot of time to make the lyrics veiled and mysterious. With this record, I didn’t want to do that anymore. I wanted the lyrics to mirror what was happening in real life.”

“Mirror” perfectly captures Glom’s signature sound, which seamlessly fuses the sounds of 90s grunge and shoegaze with today’s indie and alternative. The track, which will open up Below, begins by setting a more mellow, grunge-influenced tone before picking up into its more poppy, indie-esque main phrase. We hear the “crunchy,” lo-fi influence of grunge-gaze during the guitar solo in the song’s latter half, which is one of the many highlights of this unique track.

Dunnevant sings of selling Rick Owens clothes for rent as well as his old, rundown apartment. He sings of sitting in the cold with his coat on, as the apartment lacked heat, but he convinces himself that the situation is alright. When speaking on the song, Dunnevant looks to the line “My belief is my only weakness” as the song’s thesis, saying that his perpetual optimism and hope can be his own demise in situations like this.

In Below, Glom plans to continue taking inspiration from his favorite artists across all genres, including the high-definition sounds of 90s alternative acts like Third Eye Blind, the melodic structure of grunge-gazers like Narrow Head, and even his own indie and alternative contemporaries like Dazy. The other singles released ahead of the album, such as “Glass” and “Late to the Party,” are prime examples of Glom’s innovative takes on his musical inspirations.
