“Cut & Rewind”: Say She She Announce New Album and Release Title Track

NYC-born, female-fronted discodelic group Say She She released “Cut & Rewind,” the title track of their upcoming album, out Oct. 3.

“Cut & Rewind,” Say She She‘s newest single is a vocally experimental track with punchy rhythms and godly harmonies, reminiscent of the B-52’s’ spacey harmonies in songs like “Topaz.”

Say She She are a Brooklyn-based trio consisting of Piya Malik, Sabrina Mileo Cunningham and Nya Gazelle Brown, all classically trained singers. The group describe themselves as discodelic, a mix between disco and psychedelic genres.

“Cut & Rewind” starts with a bassline that remains poignant through the entire track. Soon after, three blended voices break into the song with their cosmic harmonies. The lyrics describe the experiences of recording and cutting music with a catchy “and we grind // cut and rewind” for the chorus.

Cut & Rewind, out October 3, is a politically-charged and dancefloor-crushing album. The trio’s inspiration comes from Minnie Ripperton, Raw Silk, ESG and Liquid Liquid to create a hard-edge disco and punk funk sound. The album, filled with juxtapositions of danceable music and movement driven lyrics, discusses topics from stripping away women’s rights in the modern day to the thinly veiled racism and homophobia surrounding the discourse of disco.
