Amy Grant Returns With New Single Inspired by Yasgur’s Farm

Amy Grant released “The 6th of January (Yasgur’s Farm)” on Monday, Jan. 6, marking her first single of all-original material in over a decade. The song draws direct inspiration from Max Yasgur’s dairy farm in Bethel where the 1969 Woodstock Music & Art Fair took place.

Produced by ten-time CMA winner and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer Mac McAnally, the track explores themes of healing, unity and human connection. The song poses a universal question about collective purpose rather than offering quick solutions, asking listeners to consider whether society has lost its way since the idealism of the Woodstock era.

Grant reflected on the song’s message, noting how daily choices shape the world. The track suggests problem-solving requires collective understanding rather than individual solutions, encouraging listeners to view situations through perspectives beyond their own.

Sonically reminiscent of Joni Mitchell, “The 6th of January (Yasgur’s Farm)” invites listeners to sit with uncertainty and recognize strength found in shared understanding. The song references Woodstock, Harper’s Ferry and John Lennon while suggesting hope lies in choosing to move forward together despite ongoing challenges.

“I hear the words John Lennon said
Asking me to imagine
As I fight this cart with crooked wheels
He’s either bent over laughing
Or spinning in his Strawberry Fields”

The single will appear on Grant’s upcoming album, her first collection of all-original material in more than a decade, due out later this year via Thirty Tigers.

Grant’s career spans over four decades, during which she became the first Contemporary Christian Music artist to achieve a platinum record, reach No. 1 on the Pop charts and perform at the GRAMMY Awards. Later this month, Grant will receive the Woman of Courage Award at the American Heart Association Gala in New York City before embarking on headline tour dates throughout February and March.
