Frank DiLella’s theater picks: ‘Call Me Izzy,’ ‘MEMNON’ and more

With the many entertainment choices New York City has to offer, it can be difficult to make a choice. Look no further. “On Stage” host Frank DiLella has curated a list of “must-see” shows this week, directing you to the best of Broadway, off-Broadway and beyond.

‘Call Me Izzy’

It’s been 25 years since six-time Emmy Award-winner Jean Smart has been on the Broadway boards, and now she’s back. She’s starring in a one-person, dark comedy about an aspiring writer coming to terms with a painful secret. It’s written by Jamie Wax and directed by Sarna Lapine. “Call Me Izzy” is currently playing at Studio 54 through Aug. 17.

‘MEMNON’

Heading uptown now, don’t miss The Classical Theatre of Harlem’s presentation of “MEMNON” by Will Power. Direct from a celebrated run in Los Angeles — “MEMNON” tells the tale of an Ethiopian king and demigod who fought for Troy during the Trojan War. It’s playing at the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park and tickets are free.
