With the many entertainment choices New York City has to offer, it can be difficult to make a choice. Look no further. “On Stage” host Frank DiLella has curated a list of “must-see” shows this week, directing you to the best of Broadway, off-Broadway and beyond.
“Cabaret”
It’s Wilkomenn, Bienvenue and welcome back to Broadway for Tony Award-winner Billy Porter and two-time Oliver nominated actress Marisha Wallace. The stars are the final pair to play The Emcee and Sally Bowles in the 2024 New York revival of “Cabaret.”This marks the first time two Black artists are portraying The Emcee and Sally full-time on Broadway. You can catch “Cabaret” at the Kit Kat Club through Oct. 19.
“Saturday Church”
Heading now to the off-Broadway scene, down at New York Theatre Workshop, don’t miss “Saturday Church.” The new musical, which features music by the pop star SIA is based on the 2017 film of the same name by writer and director Damon Cardasis. Both the film and the stage adaptation are inspired by Cardasis’ personal experience. “Saturday Church” features Tony Award-winners J. Harrison Ghee, Joaquina Kalukango and New York theater newcomer Bryson Battle from “The Voice.”

“The Brothers Size”
Over at The Shed, check out “The Brothers Size” by Oscar Award-winner for “Moonlight” Tarell Alvin McCraney. In this modern-day fable set in the deep South — we’re introduced to two brothers and watch as they grapple with the complexities of family, their own duty and freedom. The cast features André Holland, Alani iLongwe and Malcolm Mays.

“The Ballad of JonBenét Ramsey”
And finally, downtown sensation Ryan Raftery returns to Joe’s Pub with his latest show “The Ballad of JonBenét Ramsey.” The musical satire takes aim at our society’s obsession with true crime. In the show, we follow Jessica Feltcher, who turns the unsolved mystery of the child beauty queen into a hit podcast. The musical features tune by Lady Gaga, Kiss, Kylie Minogue and more. “Ryan Raftery: The Ballad of JonBenét Ramsey” runs Sept. 12 through Sept. 17, with Jay Turton directing.
