A new, triple-A Star Wars game will be announced at Celebration Chicago in April

Lucasfilm also promises new developments for the massively multiplayer online PC game .

Respawn Entertainment’s key people were responsible for many of the most influential first-person shooters over the past several years, from  to  and even the critically acclaimed but not widely played .

The studio went through a public and ugly breakup with publisher Activision before stepping out on its own to develop .

Respawn is now owned by Activision’s longtime competitor EA, which recently launched hero-based battle royale . The company is still reportedly working on a new game in the Titanfall franchise, though it seems that will not be .

Lucasfilm has worked exclusively with EA on Star Wars video games for much of Star Wars’ current era, but the results have been mixed. EA canceled a major Star Wars game from  lead Jade Raymond and Naughty Dog writer Amy Hennig, best known for the Uncharted series.  landed poorly with fans, in no small part due to outrage over the game’s microtransaction scheme at launch.  has been successful on mobile, but fans also complain that its in-app monetization is a barrier to enjoyment.

Many fans that fondly remember the Star Wars games put out by LucasArts in an earlier era have not been keen to engage with EA’s efforts. But Respawn’s track record of quality is strong, so some fans have remained hopeful about . We’ll find out more in April.
