In Focus: LaMP Lights Up Buffalo

Jazz-trio LaMP came to Buffalo Iron Works on Tuesday, March 10. Vermont-based Russ Lawton (drums) and Ray Paczkowski (keys) both come from both Soule Monde and Trey Anastasio Band. Brooklyn’s Scott Metzger (guitar) has played in numerous projects, including Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and WOLF! LaMP started as a one-off at Nectar’s in Burlington, Vermont in 2018. The band keeps busy with their various projects but will get on the road together when they can.

LaMP brought in a nice crowd for a Tuesday night in Buffalo that would have maybe been a little sleepy otherwise was turned up a few notches as the Buffalo Sabres would go on to continue their winning streak as the show was going on a few blocks away. The show also came during a mild break in the winter, so the crowd seemed especially pumped to have a night out without the usual winter trudge through the snow.

The night featured some Soul Monde and Metzger songs, along with some material from LaMP’s two albums throughout. The band moved as a unit, while giving each other space to breathe and solo over the course of the night. The show became even more packed as the Sabre fans filtered in, and the band kept the crowd moving and dancing all night.

LaMP continues on to the Midwest next, but will return to the Northeast in June with some New Jersey dates and a show at Great South Bay Music Festival in Patchogue, NY on July 23.
