Today, New York City-based pop/rock group Scotia Rose relish in the Good Times with their debut EP out now via Deko Music.
Tomorrow night, the band will celebrate the EP with a live show at NYC’s Mercury Lounge. Alongside the full project is the driving, pop-forward “Be Your Baby” with its matching visual.
After playing a few electric shows with drum legend and Pearl Jam collaborator Richard Stuverud, it became clear that Scotia Rose was ready to make a statement, culminating in the project. Sonically, it’s heavy pop through a rock n’ roll lens with big hooks and roaring guitar solos. Lyrically fresh and clever, it explores a range of themes from existential dread to finding love at the club.
In the year and a half since their last release, Scotia Rose has played several shows and has learned from each other better as players. When Stuverud joined the live band a year ago, he made a tremendous impact, and the band fully clicked.
“He immediately understood what the songs needed, and we knew we had to record with him as soon as possible.” On the record as a whole, Weiss adds, “Everyone was locked in. It was definitely the best experience I’ve ever had recording. The finished product is the best thing I’ve ever been involved with.”
– Jeff Weiss
Scotia Rose is made up of local NYC musicians who played in the cover band circuit and played gigs separately and together multiple times a week around the city until the COVID-19 pandemic hit. The group has played a slew of shows across the city, including Bowery Ballroom, Cutting Room three times, Brooklyn Bowl twice–once with George Porter Jr. (The Meters) and once with Red Not Chili Peppers, a RHCP tribute band, and Sony Hall twice–once with Sons of Cream and once with Rumors, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band. Led by Weiss, the band includes Jason Laney (keyboards/backup vocals), blues/rocker Marcela de Campos (guitar), Antoinette Ady (violin), Andrew Koss (bass), and Richard Stuverud (drums). Now, the group is thrilled to introduce themselves with their first-ever body of work that radiantly captures the band’s essence.

Scotia Rose’s buoyant debut EP Good Times is available now via Deko Music (ADA/Warner). Catch the band live in NYC to celebrate the EP release tomorrow night, on December 6, at Mercury Lounge with tickets and information here.
