Fisher & Paykel appliances add steel accents to this brick-and-timber house in Melbourne, Australia, as shown in this video produced by Dezeen for the luxury kitchen brand.
Designed by local architecture studio Edition Office, Naples Street House is a single storey home that wraps around an internal courtyard.
“Rather than trying to address the street, we turned the house in on itself,” explained Kim Bridgland, director of Edition Office alongside Aaron Roberts.

A light-coloured brick clads the exterior walls, pitched roof and courtyard, creating what Bridgland describes as a “monolithic envelope”.
“This singular material presents the house as a solid entity, formally mimicking the low-slung pitched roof forms of the original interwar houses of the neighbourhood,” he said.
A contemporary kitchen with integrated Fisher & Paykel appliances acts as the “social heart” of the building, which accommodates multiple generations of one family under one roof.
“The Fisher & Paykel appliances allowed us to plan a more flexible space and allow for a kitchen that can be used by a multitude of family all at once,” said Roberts.

The kitchen features stainless steel countertops that sit flush with an oven and cooktop from Fisher & Paykel’s contemporary product line.
Meanwhile, bespoke cabinetry made from spotted gum plywood conceals a Fisher & Paykel refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher and rangehood.
“The kitchen connects directly to the dining and living spaces, and then opens outwards onto every aspect of the house,” said Roberts.

A hallway separates the living spaces from the bedrooms and bathrooms to create privacy and accommodate the different needs of a large family.
Floor-to-ceiling windows maintain a visual connection between the different zones of the house, while enabling the winter sun to warm the burnished concrete floors and improve energy efficiency.

Sustainably sourced hardwood plywood lines the walls, with the aim of unifying the disparate spaces.
Founded in 1934, Fisher & Paykel is a New Zealand luxury appliance brand known for creating kitchen products that seamlessly integrate into the home to complement the surrounding interior.
