On Saturday, August 2, all-female NYC brass band, Brass Queens, were joined by none other than David Byrne at C‘mon Everybody in Bed-Stuy.
Hailing from Brooklyn, Brass Queens is a female-led brass band with all-female horns and a sound deeply inspired by the New Orleans tradition. Starting out in 2019, Brass Queens has gained a dedicated following through outdoor performances on the streets of Brooklyn and pop-up events in their community through the pandemic.
Tenor Sax player Jenna Murdoch noted in the comments of the viral Instagram reel that Brass Queens played David Byrne’s variety show in 2024, so the relationship was already established.

Having run into him recently, Murdoch invited him to their show at C’mon Everybody, but didn’t expect him to show up.
And when he did show up, he was welcomed on stage, performing “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)” with the brass band. Watch the moment below.
Back in November 2023, the band released their first full-length album Black & Gold, an ode to the early fanbase who supported the band – from virtual performances and socially-distanced street corners during the COVID-19 pandemic, to the crowded clubs and packed venues of today. In 2024, the Queens released their second full-length album and their first album of all-original music titled Hot Tub Sessions Vol. I.
