Industry hopes reorganized City Hall tech office can speed up 5G rollout

At Accenture’s office on the 63rd floor of One Manhattan West, a touchscreen kiosk displays interactive, 5G-enabled scenarios—projected onto live video of the city streets below.

In one example, a 911 operator uses a 5G connection to quickly connect someone in distress with a paramedic on a video call, who can assess their condition as first responders are routed to the scene. More precise location data on the network saves responders time.

The scene is an iteration of the 5G section in the consulting firm’s New York Innovation Hub, designed to spark the imagination on next-generation cellular network possibilities, said Laura Peterson, a senior managing director at Accenture.
