Cornwall’s tourism boss has slammed “bloody tourists” who don’t respect locals in the coastal region.
The UK’s westernmost county is a popular holiday destination, receiving millions of visitors a year.
But according to Malcolm Bell – the outgoing chief executive of Visit Cornwall – some of these holidaymakers are “f***ing emmets”.
‘Emmet’ is an old English word for ant, and is a negative Cornish slang word for tourists.
“At one level you have friends, then you have guests, then you have tourists, then you have bloody tourists, then you have f***ing emmets. You can quote me on that,” Bell said in an interview with local news organisation Cornwall Live.
