With community feedback sessions set to begin next week, the 14 alternatives to the Port Authority’s controversial LaGuardia AirTrain project are drawing interest from stakeholders, with expanded light rail service increasingly being viewed as an acceptable alternative to the AirTrain.
The original vision of the LaGuardia AirTrain—an elevated rail line at Willets Point, Queens, linking LaGuardia with the subway and Long Island Rail Road—has been in a holding pattern since October, when Gov. Kathy Hochul requested that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey pause work and review other options to connect Midtown with the airport in Queens.
