U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi is jumping into the 2022 Democratic primary, where he hopes the political capital he’s earned during two decades as an elected official from Long Island can translate into a statewide upset over Gov. Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James.
Suozzi has long been viewed as one of the most electable moderate Democrats in the state after establishing himself as a bipartisan problem-solver in an increasingly divided Congress. Although his political pedigree was largely unknown to voters outside of Long Island until recently, he earned national notice for the role he has played during ongoing negotiations over President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better bill.
