Read It, Watch It: Kathy Hochul Addresses New Yorkers in 1st Major Speech as Governor

Kathy Hochul became the first female governor of New York in a midnight swearing-in ceremony shortly after Andrew Cuomo’s resignation took effect.

In her first major address to New Yorkers as the state’s 57th governor, Hochul called for a vaccine or test-out mandate for all school staff. She also touched upon rent relief and said there would be “a dramatic change in culture—with accountability and no tolerance for individuals who cross the line” during her administration, which she said was the beginning of an “era of transparency.”
