NYCHA’s pleas for increased funding put city and state at odds

After a clawback of federal funds and virtually no plans from the state to address the shortfall, the New York City Housing Authority is asking City Hall for more funding to ensure their portfolio of buildings survive.

“We are reckoning with the greatest threat the authority has faced in its 88 years: the compounded effects of four decades of government disinvestment in public housing,” said Gregory Russ, NYCHA chair and CEO, in his opening remarks to council members on Tuesday. “We are continually reminded that we cannot depend solely on federal funding alone.”
