Ethics panel to subpoena Gov. Hochul over Cuomo’s COVID ‘volunteers’

New York state’s ethics watchdog is probing former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s controversial use of COVID-19 pandemic response “volunteers” amid conflict-of-interest concerns — and is ready to subpoena his replacement, Gov. Kathy Hochul, to get to the truth.

The Joint Commission on Public Ethics on Tuesday approved a motion for a subpoena asking Hochul’s office to turn over records on unpaid officials who played a part in her disgraced predecessor’s handling of the crisis.

“We don’t know who the volunteers were. We don’t know whether they were true volunteers or not,” JCOPE Commissioner Gary Lavine said Tuesday, the Times Union reported. “It’s a pretty big development.”
