The city is past the peak of its most recent Covid-19 surge, as cases have fallen by 26% between May 23 and June 5, Dr. Ashwin Vasan, the city’s health commissioner, announced in a tweet Thursday.
According to NYC Health, as of June 9 more than 7% of people tested were positive during the past seven days, down from a nearly 11% average in the past 28 days. Total cases, hospitalizations and deaths are all decreasing. The seven-day average case count June 6 was 3,449, compared with 4,361 on May 23.
The city’s alert level remains high, however.
