A small-business owner exhausted by gun violence plans to hold a gun buyback event this weekend together with the city Police Department and the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office. The joint effort to entice people to turn in their illegal guns comes as citywide shootings have risen 70% in the past two years.
Alan Rosen, third-generation owner of Junior’s restaurant in Downtown Brooklyn, said he expects to spend $10,000 to $20,000 of his own money to fund a gun buyback drive Saturday at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Rosen, under NYPD oversight, will pay for the exchanged guns directly and purchase iPads that can be received in the exchange, he said.
