Brooklyn data startup founded by journalists raises $3.5M to fight 'information overload'

Applied XL, a startup founded by two computational journalists focused on providing insights to businesses from huge datasets, has raised $3.5 million to expand.

“Our goal is to fight information overload,” said Francesco Marconi, CEO and co-founder of the company, which announced the funding round on Monday. The deal is led by Hearst Ventures, with participation from Boston Globe Media Partners and STAT news.

Founded in 2020 out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Applied XL is currently focused on the life sciences industry, providing regular updates on movements in clinical trials to clients that include biotech companies and investors.
