Adrienne Adams will become the next City Council speaker, after securing the necessary voting commitments Friday from sitting and incoming council members.
The councilwoman from Queens announced that she received promises from 33 of 51 council members who pledged to vote for her in the balloting on Jan. 5. Adams had been locked in a tight campaign with Councilman Francisco Moya of Queens, an ally of Mayor-elect Eric Adams.
Both Adrienne Adams and Moya stated this week that they had secured the necessary 26 votes to become the next leader.
Any uncertainty ended Friday, when Adams released a list of 33 council members and their public statements
