Mayor Eric Adams has departed from some traditional customs of his predecessors in their relations with the news media, creating tension and raising questions about transparency.
Tuesday the relationship boiled over.
Adams unleashed a tirade on reporters. He criticized the lack of diversity in newsrooms and voiced objections to what he considers to be unfair coverage of his administration. He threatened to stop answering questions at news conferences and wondered aloud why he bothered taking questions in the first place.
