Like a flash of morning light, “8 Hours” finds NYC-based alt-indie band Morning Silk capturing the fragile intensity of new love. The latest single comes from Have A Nice Life, arriving May 1.
Morning Silk puts into song the visceral feeling of finding love, putting into words the aura of new beginnings, while tracing the fleeting, fragile moments that define it. This comes as no surprise, as the group often hones in on the emotional intensity of their sound, pairing lush instrumentation that explores the poetic complexities of life.
Led by producer and multi-instrumentalist Frank Corr, Morning Silk emerges from New York City’s cultural landscape, shaping a sound that reflects its creative energy. Corr first emerged as a producer for artists such as The Drums and Yuno before channeling his cinematic instincts into Morning Silk.
On the track, Corr says “there is a rush to falling in love,” describing “8 Hours” as “the sound of the rush of falling in love, like running towards a cliff,” while adding that it reflects “a song about longing for a peaceful love, where you find a healthy life… a place where you can sleep 8 hours a night.” The idea of “8 hours” of sleep becomes a symbol of fulfillment, a rare sense of peace where one feels whole, rested, and ready to take on more, much like love in its purest form.

As a result, the video embraces the fullness of morning light, showing how the mundane can feel stable when love breaks through the surface of the ordinary. Starting off with warm moments of sunlight, candlelight, and intimacy, the video establishes a sense of comfort and emotional closeness. The video depicts a grocery store worker meeting the eyes of a woman, suggesting love at first sight, but it becomes more than that as the moment of attraction unleashes a renewed lust for life within him, making the ordinary suddenly feel full of possibility.
