In Focus: Floydian Trip Return to The Glove Theater

Floydian Trip, New England’s premier Pink Floyd tribute band, exploded on to the stage at the historic Glove Theater in Gloversville, NY on Saturday, June 28.  Sporting their new laser light show, founder and drummer Adam Clymer and the band, awed the sold-out crowd at the Glove with a visual and musical experience they won’t soon forget.

Formed in 2022, Floydian Trip is a seven-member tribute band dedicated to recreating the energy and sound of Pink Floyd’s classic tours. Drawing on everything from official releases to rare bootleg recordings, the group aims to deliver an authentic experience grounded in musical detail and respect for the original performances.

Based in Hartford, CT, the band has been building a solid base of fans throughout New England for years.  Their spot-on vocals and musicianship coupled with their amazing light show has them selling out venues in their home area as well as allowing them to expand into New York and the mid-Atlantic states as far south as Virginia.

In a nod to the 50th Anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here LP, the band dedicated most of their second set to performing the entire album from the first needle drop to the final notes of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Part IX.”

Adam Clymer channels Nick Mason’s power and precision, from the iconic Roto-Toms on “Time” to his dedication to Floyd’s live sound, creating an unforgettable experience for fans.

As lead guitarist, Jerry Burrus brings David Gilmour’s playing to life with remarkable skill. From “Wish You Were Here” to the iconic solo in “Comfortably Numb,” Jerry’s performances make audiences feel like they’re hearing Gilmour himself. Using his custom Nash S-63 and Hi-Tone amp, he channels the tones that define Floyd’s sound.

Ryan Allen is the band’s secret weapon, mastering Rick Wright’s distinctive layered keys. His standout moment? The second suite of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” where he effortlessly shifts between synths, organs, and piano. With a Nord Stage 4 in his setup, Ryan meticulously recreates Floyd’s atmospheric soundscapes.

Mike Forgette masterfully melds Pink Floyd’s quiet beauty and intensity, recreating both David Gilmour’s guitar tones and Roger Waters’ commanding vocals. Playing his gold Fender Strat (along with many other guitars), he brings Floyd’s dark sarcasm to life and guides audiences through a journey of hope, sorrow, and beauty.

Stephanie Jones’ powerhouse voice brings an essential dimension to Floydian Trip, particularly in “The Great Gig in the Sky,” where she draws inspiration from Clare Torry’s famed improvisation. With a master’s degree from the Yale School of Music, Stephanie combines technical prowess with a rock-and-roll spirit, giving the band a unique edge – added plus, she rocks a mean cowbell!

Jonathan Hilgendorf is Floydian Trip’s versatile multi-instrumentalist—he plays the sax, guitar, clarinet, and harmonica with ease. His gnarly sax solo on “Money” sends the band into overdrive alongside the song’s distinctive 7/4 rhythm. His admiration for Pink Floyd’s Dick Parry shines in every performance, connecting with fans through his dynamic style.

Matty Whitepants brings Roger Waters’ bass lines to life, adding rich depth to the band’s sound. His favorite moment on stage is “Eclipse” where he feels the audience’s energy connect with the band’s. With his signature boots, Fender P-Bass, and Ampeg amp, Matty crafts an experience that explores the cosmic unknown.

Forgoing their lasers, guitarist Jerry Burrus is bathed in white lights from behind for the final guitar work of the “Comfortably Numb” encore; leaving the audience wanting to come back for more.

Floydian Trip will be back in New York on July 27 at the Westhampton Beach Performing arts Center, Sept. 13 at the Indian Lake Theater and Sept. 27 at Lark Hall in Albany.
