This past Thursday, July 17, Dinosaur Jr and Snail Mail played Prospect Park in Brooklyn, the second stop on their co-headlining tour.
Both Dinosaur Jr. and Snail Mail are no stranger to Brooklyn having performed in the borough many times at various venues over the years, but Thursday was both groups first time playing the Lena Horne Bandshell in Prospect Park. Shows at the Lena Horne Bandshell are presented by BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn, which is New York’s longest-running free, annual performing arts festival.

Snail Mail began at 7:40 and played almost an hour long set of songs spanning their albums and EPs, including two new songs entitled “Dead End” and “Nowhere.” The sound of their live performance is almost identical to the sound of the records, which makes the show even more enjoyable. They also included a cover of “Two Legs” by This Is Lorelei which was very fitting given that the members of This Is Lorelei were off to the side of the stage watching the show.
Snail Mail Setlist: Headlock, Glory, Madonna, Pristine, Speaking Terms, Two Legs (This Is Lorelei cover), Thinning, Automate, Dead End, Nowhere, Full Control, Valentine, Heat Wave

Dinosaur Jr. promptly took the stage at 9pm, kicking into “Severed Lips” off of their debut album, Dinosaur. A few songs into the set, a cake and candles were brought out to celebrate bass player, Lou Barlow’s birthday which was the same night.

Their set lasted for just over an hour and included some of their more popular songs which pleased fans. The night concluded with an encore of covers. “Just Like Heaven” by The Cure and “TV Eye” by The Stooges. The co-headlining tour continues throughout the U.S until mid August.
