Flood Warnings Don’t Stop Fans from Seeing vaultboy in Syracuse

On a rainy Tuesday night in Syracuse, fans gathered at The Song and Dance for vaultboy’s ‘in your city’ tour, with support from dreamfone, regardless of flood warnings. Fans came from all over – even Binghamton and Watertown – just for a chance to see vaultboy’s alternative pop/ electronic music live.

Opener dreamfone emerged in 2021 with lead vocalist Richie Arthur and lead guitarist Reece Alan. The pair previously toured with Your Neighbors and have continued to gain traction. They played a few of their hits like “sleepover”, “talking to myself”, and “only heartbreak.” Towards the end of their set they surprised the audience by covering “Taste” by Sabrina Carpenter, Richie teasing it was “the last night” they’d cover it.

As their set closed, anticipation grew for the headliner, people talking throughout the venue about what songs they hoped would be played. Jeremiah Daly, a.k.a. artist vaultboy, is an American pop artist from Jacksonville, Florida known for his viral hit “everything sucks.”

Closing out his first section with “you’re my moon” he commented “I love your smiling faces” to the Syracuse crowd, who beamed with excitement. As his set pushed forward he played a fan favorite and his most recent single “DELETED,” which transitioned into a fan request he saw in his Instagram DMs asking to play “A MILLION TIMES.” The fan waved to him, leaning into their partner at the announcement, playing the song for the lucky fan.

vaultboy’s attention to the crowd continued for the whole show, bantering about Syracuse and how beautiful the old buildings are, joking “I deserve it, it’s my fault” when dropping his guitar picks, and fans grabbing them, leaving him with none to play his guitar later on (a fan did lend one when needed).

The final song was “everything, everywhere,” or so the crowd thought. As soon as vaultboy exited, fans grew closer to the stage pushing for one more song. While an encore isn’t normally a part of his set, he opened the curtain and came back out. Names for songs were shouted and the lucky pick was “way after forever”. “This song is hard to sing, it’s the end of the night you help me dammit” he laughed while starting to play the acoustic guitar. Everyone sang the lyrics back closing out the Syracuse set.
