Brooklyn’s psych underground continues to evolve as Berliner Lukka announces her third full-length album Wendekind, due June 5, alongside the release of its lead single, “Fabric of the Cosmos.”
Operating out of New York City, Lukka’s trio — led by songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist Franzi Szymkowiak — sits at the intersection of space rock, neo-psychedelia, and synth-driven indie. “Fabric of the Cosmos” captures that balance, built on hypnotic grooves, immersive textures, and melody-forward songwriting that reflects the experimental spirit of Brooklyn’s DIY and electronic scenes.
The upcoming album Wendekind expands on the sonic foundation of Lukka’s 2022 release Something Human, pushing further into lush, analog-driven production. Recorded at Transmitter Park Studios and produced by Abe Seiferth — known for work with Nation of Language, Neon Indian, and Guerilla Toss —the record leans into expansive arrangements and layered synth textures.
Across Wendekind, Lukka explores themes of memory, loss, and self-discovery, moving between the personal and the cosmic. “Over the past three years, a series of events pushed me to look inward and question what had been driving my choices and behavior,” Szymkowiak explains. “The album became a deeply personal and spiritual journey, leading me back to my roots.”

The album’s title draws from her upbringing in Germany during the era surrounding the Fall of the Berlin Wall—with “Wendekind” referring to a generation born into a newly unified world. While those origins shape the record’s emotional core, its sound is distinctly informed by New York.
After traveling through Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina, Szymkowiak ultimately found a creative home in NYC. “New York City felt like the right place to meet like-minded people,” she notes. “Having a band and being an artist in this city has allowed me to meet so many other interesting people… I feel that I am part of a larger creative community.”
That sense of connection carries through the band’s tight-knit lineup, featuring bassist Ashley Gonzalez and drummer Simon SiFi Fishburn. Together, the trio delivers a focused, rhythm-forward sound defined by driving bass lines, propulsive grooves, delayed guitars, and analog synth layers.

A second single, “Tomboi,” arrives April 7, further previewing the album’s themes of duality and identity. Fans can catch Lukka live on April 15 at Cassette, where she’ll debut material from Wendekind ahead of its summer release.
With Wendekind, Berliner Lukka refines an immersive and expansive sound, cementing her place within New York’s growing space-rock and neo-psychedelic landscape. Listen here.
