Time to Meander Through Teyana Taylor’s Dating History For No Reason At All

You don’t need us to tell you that actor/singer/dancer/living legend Teyana Taylor has had a historic run this year. Not only was she the best-dressed celeb at the Met Gala, but she also starred alongside Regina Hall, Chase Infiniti, and Leonardo DiCaprio in Paul Thomas Anderson’s buzzy film, One Battle After Another. Oh, and she also shared the screen with Kim Kardashian in Hulu’s campy legal dramedy, All’s Fair, and released her Grammy-nominated fourth album, Escape Room, with an accompanying short film.

That doesn’t even scratch the surface of everything Teyana’s done this year, but it does beg the question…how does she even have time to date? She’s reportedly been romantically linked to Aaron Pierre since February, and honestly, this video still lives rent-free in our minds:

Before she and Aaron started dating, Teyana was actually (allegedly) linked to a ton of athletes and rappers, from Iman Shumpert to A$AP Rocky. So…let’s scroll through Teyana Taylor’s dating history together, shall we?

This one’s probably got you raising your eyebrows, but allow us to explain. A few sources online claim that Teyana and Rocky dated in a pre-Rih era when they were teenagers in Harlem. There isn’t much public info on their romantic relationship, but the pair has remained friendly over the years, given their NYC roots and ongoing collaborations.

In 2019, A$AP Rocky starred alongside Teyana in her music video for “Issues/Hold On,” and they’ve continued to give each other their flowers when it comes to their fashion impact and artistry. The exact timing of their reported split is unclear, but we do know that they have more of a sibling bond these days. Love this for them!

After her alleged romance with Rocky, Teyana moved on to former NBA shooting guard Daniel Gibson. They reportedly dated for about a year before the Cleveland Cavaliers athlete met R&B singer Keyshia Cole in 2010, with whom he eventually married and had a child before they filed for divorce in 2020.

In 2009, Teyana started running in the same circles as Soulja Boy. Yes, that Soulja Boy. You know, the one of “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” and “Kiss Me Thru the Phone” fame in the 2000s. Around that time, the pair were cast members on Love & Hip Hop, where they were seen working together and partying with Sean Kingston, Ray J, and Rihanna.

While details about a romantic relationship between Teyana and Soulja Boy are pretty slim, he claimed to have dated her in the thick of an argument with Chris Brown in 2017. According to Billboard, Teyana told Chris that Rihanna and Soulja Boy had become friends after their infamous domestic violence scandal, which reportedly “pushed Chris to get on the phone” with the “Turn My Swag On” rapper. This seems to be the only confirmation that Soulja Boy and Teyana dated, so take it with a grain of salt.

From 2009 to 2010, Teyana was photographed with NFL player and media personality Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson on multiple occasions. While neither has confirmed the nature of their relationship, it seems like they had flirty exchanges on social media from time to time, including this interaction…

Now, we get to Teyana’s fully confirmed relationships. Her first public romance was with NBA player Brandon Jennings, as they made public appearances together and engaged in similar social media flirtations. The pair went on to get engaged, and Teyana claimed to have lost her virginity to Brandon once he proposed to her. “When I’m ready to have my second [relationship]… I’m gonna do that,” she said on The Breakfast Club at the time, per TMZ.

Their fallout, however, got pretty messy. The pair split up in 2014 after Teyana alleged that Brandon had been unfaithful to her with her good friend at the time, Lashontae “Tae” Heckard. “Brandon doesn’t even shock me anymore. So my issue isn’t with Brandon,” she said on The Breakfast Club. “I’m not even upset because I know him. My issue is with Tae because we were friends.”

The allegations resulted in some public beef on social media and in interviews a few years later, when Teyana spoke openly about her relationship with Brandon during an interview on The Wendy Williams Show in 2016.

“The lie is always better. No one cares bout the truth. Now that’s the drama!” Brandon posted at the time, per International Business Times. He later added, “People still talking about a situation we let go 3/4 years ago! Let it go like we did. Before we put that phone conversation out.”

After her dramatic fallout with Brandon, Teyana found love again with Cleveland Cavaliers player Iman Shumpert in 2015. He reportedly stood by her side through all the public beef with Brandon, and in December of that year, they welcomed their first child, Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr. They secretly wed in their bathroom—where Junie was delivered—in October 2016, and a few years later, in 2020, they had their second baby, Rue Rose Shumpert.

Most of Teyana and Iman’s relationship was documented on their E! reality show, We Got Love: Teyana & Iman, before they filed for divorce in January 2023. According to Billboard, the One Battle After Another star shared the news on Instagram in September to deal with matters privately.

“In all fairness, Iman and I are separated and have been for a while. To be 1000 percent clear, ‘infidelity’ ain’t one of the reasons for our departure,” she wrote, in part. “We are still the best of friends, great business partners, and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our two beautiful children.”

Though their split seemed amicable, there was some drama once their divorce settlement was finalized in 2024, when Teyana accused Iman of leaking legal details to the media. According to People, Iman denied her allegation while his attorney refuted it in court filings. The Sun also reported that a court ruled that Teyana violated confidentiality by publicly discussing the divorce settlement, which led to her paying $70,000 of Iman’s legal fees.

Teyana’s most recent relationship with Aaron Pierre marks her first public romance since calling it quits with Iman in 2023. Nearly two years later, she sparked dating rumors with the Mufasa star after they attended the Fifteen Percent Pledge Gala in L.A. back in February. It wasn’t until June that they went Instagram official, and in August, Aaron starred alongside Teyana in her short film for Escape Room, where they shared a steamy kiss.

The following month, they hit the premiere of Teyana’s flick, One Battle After Another, together.

And, though they’ve been open about their ’ship on social media, Teyana revealed that she doesn’t refer to Aaron as her boyfriend…yet, anyway.

“That’s my apple pie, and we are each other’s safe space,” she said during her The Hollywood Reporter cover story in November. She didn’t further clarify the nature of their relationship, but she assured the outlet that she will when the time comes.

“If that’s something that I decide to say,” she added, “then it’s going to be something that we say together.”
