Rays batter Yankees in 8-2 loss to AL East foe

BRONX — The Yankees weren’t playing the Oakland Athletics anymore on Thursday and it showed. 

The Rays put up eight runs over four innings as the Yanks’ dropped the series opener against Tampa 8-2. New York starter Domingo Germán held the Rays to just one run through the first five innings before the visitors opened the game up after he was taken out during the top of the sixth. 

Yankee manager Aaron Boone turned to the bullpen with two outs in the top of the sixth, handing the ball over to Ron Marinaccio with only a runner on first and Germán having only thrown 87 pitches. The Rays proceeded to pour on
