With the many entertainment choices New York City has to offer, it can be difficult to make a choice. Look no further. “On Stage” host Frank DiLella has curated a list of “must-see” shows this week, directing you to the best of Broadway, off-Broadway and beyond.
“Jeff Ross: Take A Banana For The Ride”
The roast master general has made it to Broadway. Comedian Jeff Ross — best known for torching celebrities in the “Comedy Central Roasts” — is making his Main Stem debut with his solo show “Jeff Ross: Take A Banana For The Ride.” Expect to hear family stories, his take on Broadway and even some “dangerous jokes.” Ross is playing at The Nederlander Theatre, with his official opening night Aug. 18.
“Stranger Things: The First Shadow”
And sticking with Broadway, a couple blocks away at The Marquis Theatre, check out “Stranger Things: The First Shadow.” It’s the prequel to the popular Netflix series. The show stars Tony Award-nominee Louis McCartney as Henry Creel and Gabrielle Nevaeh as Patty Newby. Check out McCartney and Nevaeh on “On Stage” this weekend at 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
“Amaze”
On the off-Broadway front, direct from London’s West End, check out Jamie Allan’s “Amaze.” In the show, audience members will experience Allan’s mind-bending illusions; that’s where “you become part of the impossible. ” “Amaze” is playing at New World Stages.

And keeping with the incredible on stage, over at Stage 42, don’t miss “Lord Nil: Seven Deadly Sins.” International escape artist and “America’s Got Talent” star Lord Nil brings his new show to New York that’s rooted in physical danger and psychological suspense.

“Classic Whitney: the 10th Anniversary Edition”
And finally, looking ahead to Sunday, Aug. 17, Kevin Smith Kirkwood is bringing the great Whitney Houston center stage at Joe’ Pub with “Classic Whitney: the 10th Anniversary Edition.” Expect to hear all the diva’s greatest hits in Kirkwood’s musical tribute.
