Frank DiLella’s theater picks: ‘SMASH,’ ‘Operation Mincemeat’ and more

With the many entertainment choices New York City has to offer, it can be difficult to decide what to see. Look no further. “On Stage” host Frank DiLella has curated a list of must-see shows this week, guiding you to the best of Broadway, off-Broadway and beyond. 

“SMASH”

“SMASH,” the comedy about the making of a musical, is currently playing at The Imperial Theatre. The show is inspired by the NBC TV series and stars musical theater triple threat Robyn Hurder as Ivy Lynn — an actress who is portraying Marilyn Monroe in a musical called “Bombshell.” You can watch Hurder and her costars’ interview with “On Stage” this weekend at 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

“Operation Mincemeat”

Also on the Broadway boards — “Operation Mincemeat,” which is up for four Tony Award-nominations. Billed as a thriller, farce and Ian Fleming-style spy caper, “Operation Mincemeat” shines a spotlight on a covert operation that took place during World War II. You can watch the interview with the “Operation Mincemeat” creators and stars this weekend on “On Stage” as well.

And finally, funny man Mario Cantone is back at The Cafe Carlyle May 19 to May 25. Cantone stopped by the “On Stage” studio to give viewers a preview.
