Frank DiLella’s theater picks: ‘Call Me Izzy,’ ‘Angry Alan,’ ‘The Death of Rasputin’ and more

With the many entertainment choices New York City has to offer, it can be difficult to decide what to see. Look no further. “On Stage” host Frank DiLella has curated a list of must-see shows this week, guiding you to the best of Broadway, off-Broadway and beyond. 

“Call Me Izzy”
Six-time Emmy Award-winner Jean Smart is back on Broadway in the play “Call Me Izzy.” In this new work by Jamie Wax, Smart plays the title character — a woman harboring a secret in rural Louisiana. “Call Me Izzy” is currently in previews at Studio 54. Opening night is set for June 12.

“Angry Alan”
On the off-Broadway front, John Krasinski is center stage in the solo play “Angry Alan.” In the show, Krasinski plays Roger — a man who is down on his luck and spirals into an online rabbit hole.

“Passengers”

Down at The Perelman Performing Arts Center, check out “Passengers” by the physical theater troupe 7 Fingers. In the show, the audience encounters passengers on a train who are expressing themselves through cirque, music and dance.

“The Death of Rasputin”
Over on Governors Island, don’t miss “The Death of Rasputin”. Created by some of the original principals from the long-running hit “Sleep No More,” “The Death of Rasputin” is an immersive experience that transports audience members to Russia in 1916 — where war and scandal collide.

Lee Roy Reams
Finally, on June 3, Broadway’s Lee Roy Reams brings his solo show “Me & Betty (AKA Lauren Bacall)” back to 54 BELOW. Expect to hear his show biz tales and songs about working with the legendary actress.
