With the many entertainment choices New York City has to offer, it can be difficult to make a choice. Look no further. “On Stage” host Frank DiLella has curated a list of “must-see” shows this week, directing you to the best of Broadway, off-Broadway and beyond.
“Art”
The 1998 Tony-winning play “Art” returns to Broadway with an all-star trio: Bobby Cannavale, James Corden and Neil Patrick Harris.
“It’s three longtime friends who live in Paris, and one of them buys a piece of art. There are sort of implications and repercussions on the friendship because of this very, very controversial purchase, at least among the three of them,” Cannavale said. “And sort of how this tests the friendship and how it tests their relationship and the dynamic of the relationship.”
“Art” is at the Music Box Theatre — opening is set for Sept. 16.
“Punch”
Also in previews, “Punch” is now playing at Broadway’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
In this play by James Graham we meet Jacob, who has gone on a whirlwind that ultimately lands him in prison. While incarcerated, he makes an unusual connection.
“Punch” stars Broadway favorite and two-time Tony-winner Victoria Clark. Opening night is set for Sept. 29. Ticket information
“Mexodus”
On the off-Broadway front, check out “Mexodus” — now playing at the Minetta Lane Theatre.
This live looping, hip-hop musical shines a spotlight on the Underground Railroad that ran South – which helped thousands escape slavery by crossing into Mexico.
