Our favorite Dungeons & Dragons campaign has officially come to an end as the season 5 finale aired and even premiered in some of our favorite local theaters, however, that doesn’t mean we’re officially leaving Hawkins for good. Of course, there’s always fun Netflix events like Netflix Dallas where you can check out a special Stranger Things experience of Stranger Things: The First Shadow which tells us more about Henry’s story, but there’s actually a new Netflix series that follows our favorite Hawkins crew as they face more dangers from the Upside Down. Only, this time, we’re heading a bit back in time to see what we’ve missed.
Here’s everything you need to know about Stranger Things: Tales from ’85.
Wait, there’s a Stranger Things spin-off?
Yes, Netflix is officially releasing an animated spin-off of Stranger Things called Stranger Things: Tales from ’85. The series takes place in between the second and third season of Stranger Things and follows the core group—Eleven, Mike, Will, Lucas, Dustin, and Max—along with a new group member, Nikki Baxter, as they face creatures from the Upside Down together.
According to Netflix, “Welcome back to Hawkins in the stark winter of 1985, where the original characters must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town in Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, an epic new animated series.”
So, does this mean the Stranger Things cast is back?
While our favorite characters are certainly coming back, the original cast members will note be reprising their roles in this new animated series. Instead, some new voice actors will be taking over as the Hawkins crew:
- Brett Gipson as Jim Hopper
- Luca Diaz as Mike Wheeler
- Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven / Jane Hopper
- Braxton Quinney as Dustin Henderson
- Elisha Williams as Lucas Sinclair
- Ben Plessala as Will Byers
- Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max Mayfield
When will Stranger Things: Tales of ’85 be released?
An official release date hasn’t been announced yet, but Netflix did confirm that it will be released in 2026, so not long now before we go back to Hawkins!
Is this the only Stranger Things spin-off happening?
We’re definitely crossing our fingers for more Stranger Things and it looks like the Duffers have more in mind for the series.
“There are more Stranger Things stories to tell and in the works,” Matt Duffer said at Netflix’s Next on Netflix press event, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a bit early at this point to talk about them, but we’re deeply involved in every one — it’s very important to us that anything with the Stranger Things name on it is of the highest quality and not repetitive — that it has a reason to exist and always blazes its own path. And also, it needs to basically just be … awesome. Or we need to think it’s awesome. And there are a lot of what we think are awesome things in the pipeline.”
While other projects still haven’t been greenlit yet, we’re seriously hoping this is not the end!
