Okay, hear us out: wig allegations might be the new indicator that you’re Hollywood’s latest it girl. Just ask Sabrina Carpenter, pop star/Grammy winner/Redken ambassador, who frivolously seemed unbothered by the internet’s claims that her perfectly styled curtain bangs and bright blonde tresses could possibly be fake.
The latest star to fall victim to weird discourse about her hair is I Love LA’s Odessa A’zion, who rocks dark, shaggy curls on the regular—except, she (sort of) debunked the rumor altogether during the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday, January 4.
When she was asked if she wears wigs for high-profile appearances, Odessa gave a complicated response.
“I’ve been told about that,” she said during an interview with Deadline. “There’s a whole debate, ‘Is it a wig? Is it not?’ I guess we’ll never know. No, I’m kidding.”
In short: yes and no. Odessa explained that she opted for a wig at the Los Angeles premiere of Marty Supreme on December 8, though she only received the allegation when she wore her natural curls on the red carpet for the NYC premeire on December 16.

“The gag is the L.A. premiere was a wig, and the New York premiere, it took me five hours to do my hair, and everyone thinks it’s a wig,” she explained.
Her confession comes after fans have tirelessly attempted to recreate her high-volume look at home, with some even posting hair tutorials on TikTok. Others, like content creator @abethefilmgirl, even hopped on camera to partake in some discourse surrounding Odessa’s signature style.
“It’s extensions and then she uses a curling iron. She does it all herself. It’s been confirmed by Brooke [Starkey, Odessa’s friend and sister of Drew Starkey],” one fan claimed in Abe’s TikTok comments section, while another added, “People need to realize that most celebrities have wigs or have people doing their hair 24/7 to look good.”
Elsewhere in her chat with Deadline, Odessa cheekily debunked a rumor that she can constantly pull up in a carefully curated curly wig, adding, “You think I can afford a wig like that and wear it all the time?”
“Those are so expensive. I’ve heard wigs can go up to like $20 or $30,000. Are you fucking kidding me?” she continued, though she’s not writing off the possibility of having a glam team down the road. “I don’t even have a hair, makeup, and stylist because I’m trying to save my money…Maybe one day.”
