New York City added more jobs in October than any month this year

New York City’s economy climbed out of a ditch in October, adding the highest number of jobs since September of last year.

Employers added 40,200 jobs, counted on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to a report from the state’s Department of Labor. That’s 7.6% of all U.S. positions added last month, according to Barbara Denham, a New York City economist at Oxford Economics.

The city’s unemployment rate dropped to 9.4%, down from 9.8% in September.
