In his own words: Mayor-elect targets $4B budget gap

Eric Adams is planning a forceful entry into his new role as New York mayor Jan. 1. Two of his immediate goals, he said, are to shrink the growing education budget and institute a broad savings program across all levels of city government.

“I can’t overestimate the fat and mismanagement we have in our budget,” Adams told Crain’s during an interview this week. “When I start to listen to experts, I am just blown away by how much waste, mismanagement and, in some cases, potentially fraud there is.”
