With the many entertainment choices New York City has to offer, it can be difficult to make a choice. Look no further. “On Stage” host Frank DiLella has curated a list of “must-see” shows this week, directing you to the best of Broadway, off-Broadway and beyond.
‘Oedipus’
Stage and screen veterans Lesley Manville and Mark Strong go head-to-head in Robert Icke’s new adaptation of “Oedipus.” Set in modern times, “Oedipus” — played by Mark Strong — is on the brink of winning a major election. With his wife by his side, things couldn’t be better until a devastating truth comes to light. “Oedipus” is playing at Studio 54.
‘Marjorie Prime’
Heading now to 44th Street and the Hayes Theatre, celebrated actress June Squibb returns to the stage this season at 96 years young in the Broadway premiere of “Marjorie Prime.” Squibb stars as the title character opposite Tony Award-winners Cynthia Nixon and Danny Burstein, plus Christopher Lowell, in this deeply moving play that explores memory, family and the ever-changing role of artificial intelligence.
Broadway Week
From Jan. 20 to Feb. 12, you can score two for one ticket deals to “Marjorie Prime” and “Oedipus,” along with more than a dozen other shows, thanks to Broadway Week. My recommendations include “Oh, Mary!,” “Maybe Happy Ending,” “Hell’s Kitchen,” “Ragtime” and “Liberation.” Plus, long-running hits like “Hamilton” and “Wicked.”
