Veteran Radio Executive Joel Simon to Retire From Radio Woodstock

Radio Woodstock 100.1 WDST has announced a significant leadership restructuring as Joel Simon, longtime media executive, prepares to retire at the end of the year.

A respected veteran of New York City radio, television, and digital sales management, Joel has been an integral part of the Radio Woodstock family since joining the station as an equity partner and Vice President in 2018.

“It has always been my desire to contribute to WDST,” Joel Simon said. “I have admired the programming, music, and even the commercials since 1980, when I first discovered Radio Woodstock while visiting my family vacation home in the Catskills.”

Joel has overseen the station’s day-to-day operations, sales, and event sponsorships, playing a central role in strengthening Radio Woodstock’s business, partnerships, and community presence. In addition to his leadership responsibilities, Joel can be heard on the air every Sunday from 3 pm to 7pm, where his warm presence and deep musical knowledge have made him a listener favorite.

“Joel’s impact on Radio Woodstock is extraordinary,” said owner Gary Chetkof. “His love for this station, his professionalism, and his commitment to independent radio have meant the world to us. And we are happy that Joel will stay involved as a consultant to Radio Woodstock. And as we honor Joel’s legacy, we are equally excited to be able to promote from within the Station and to welcome Assa into the role of General Manager and elevate Gillian into a key leadership position. These changes strengthen our foundation for the years ahead.”

Assa Sacko-Zarcone – New Radio Woodstock General Manager

As Joel steps into retirement, Radio Woodstock has announced new leadership for the company heading into 2026. New General Manager Assa Sacko-Zarcone will oversee all station operations, including programming, marketing, promotions, digital strategy, events, and organizational workflow.

Gillian Toman will assume the role of Membership & Promotions Director, leading listener membership programs, promotional campaigns, and event operations, to further enhance the station’s listener-supported model and community reach.
